Category: Completed Events 2016

The Audax UK season runs from 1st October to the end of September, so the local 2016 season starts this year with the 1st November events from Connor Downs, and the last few months of 2016 fall in the 2017 season.

If you complete an event within the time limits and with a valid Brevet you will be included in the number of riders finished and you will usually appear on the full AUK results list for the event. You can order cloth badges and metal medals for the standard distances, and Grimpeur medals for AAA points, online from the Audax UK website.

X-Rated Events, Penzance 5 June 2016

A belated post to add the links to the results for these events.

Congratulations to all the riders, especially those who took on the 2016 Many Rivers to Cross route, which offered extra explorations of Bodmin Moor due to the A30 crossing closures.

The year is turning …

Another Audax season about to close – and the new one to start. Our first local events are the Celtic Coastal and Celtic Canter from Connor Downs on 23rd October.

I have added a GPX file for the Celtic Canter route, but note that you will have to change the extension (from .txt to .gpx) as this web site won’t accept a GPX file upload. The file is also available (with the correct extension) from the Facebook group here. There is also a downloadable poster you can use to advertise the events.

Update 18 October: GPS navigational files now available for the Celtic Coastal.

40thrandonneur2016 was Audax UK’s 40th year, and there are some special commemorative badges to celebrate. We had a number of first-time and existing randonneurs this year who are entitled to the one on the left, and at least one local rider will be receiving the “40@40” award (that’s over 40 points – 4000km – in events of 200km or more).

Plenty to celebrate for Audax Kernow too. We’ve had some cracking events and most of the organizers have obviously been sacrificing appropriately to the weather gods. Lots of new riders and people extending their distances. We provided the Penzance control for the Kernow and South West 600 and our TLC was very much appreciated. And we now have a Facebook group to help everyone keep in touch.

Mines and Mineral Railways Events 26 June 2016

Great rides, tasty pasty and cream tea. Good to see so many riders from up country, including another tandem.

Shame about the weather but off-roaders like it muddy don’t they.

More photos from the event available on Google photos and Facebook.

Devoran Events 15th May 2016

Lizard and the Camel DepartThe results lists for the events on Sunday are now up on the AUK site – see links below.

There was a very good turn out for the new Lizard and the Camel Brevet de Randonneur, including a lot of people attempting this distance for the first time. Just two strategic withdrawals during the ride – everyone else finished comfortably in time, so congratulations all round and Chapeau to the new randonneurs. Medals and brevet cards will be with you in due course.

The 12 riders on the 59km Peter’s Point ride also did well – everyone finished and returned to Devoran in good spirits. The results for the Cove and Cliff 110km were “mixed”, with only 20 riders validated out of 38 starters, mainly due to very incomplete brevet cards rather than inability to ride round the route.  Three riders failed to say they had abandoned the ride. Such a high percentage of DNFs (actually CBAs) reflects badly and compromises the viability of my future events.

Gwithian ControlThe riders had the benefit of excellent weather and a scenic stop at Gwithian Towans where Peter Hansen and Phil Samuels dispensed bananas, cake and water – and perhaps a bit of encouragement to those with many miles still to go.

Many thanks to both of them for their support and help and to Margaret for her 16 hour stint in the kitchen.

A First 200 in Cornwall

LizardAndCamelRouteUnder one of the lesser known rules of AUK, an event organizer and helpers involved on the day are entitled to ride a calendar event in the two weeks before the date of the event itself.  Thus it was that we set off yesterday to route check the Lizard and the Camel, and hopefully have a good day out in the May sunshine.
