Starting from Caharrack Organiser Eddie Angell
Eddie’s ride is always a winter treat, and this year we were blessed with dry weather – and a keen wind to sharpen the appetite.
As usual, the ride was more or less fully booked. 77 riders made it to the start, and every one completed the ride with valid brevet – well done all of us!
Greed and good spirits tend to keep the pace lively on the way out to the control and this year we had the wind (mainly) helping us as well. We got a bit of buffeting on the tandem, so knew it would be essential to refuel well before the return.
As in previous years, huge thanks are due to Wendy for the warm welcome and legendary refreshments. The spread at the farm was imposing, varied and delicious as usual, with pasties, sausage rolls, scones and cakes all temptingly displayed. The collection for Parkinson’s raised £173.
A second welcome back at the arivée from Eddie and from the kitchen, where Simon and Liz were serving mulled wine and mince pies – a happy end to the event and a fitting start to the festive season.
Thanks to Eddie for once again organizing a splendid ride, and to helpers Peter Hansen, Simon Jones, Liz Rayne and of course Wendy Hayden.

Shame about the weather but off-roaders like it muddy don’t they.

The Falmouth events started in dreary wet and windy conditions but the weather gods relented and we saw plenty of sunshine, even if the descent to Porthleven required a bit more pedalling that we’ve come to expect!
There is now a full gallery of photos from the events on the Falmouth Wheelers’ website. Links to the lists of finishers below. If anyone would like to send me a report on “how it was for them” I’d be glad to put it here on the site – would be great to have some impressions from those new to Audax.
Thanks to Phil for organising, helpers for helping, and cake and sandwich makers for the scrummy refreshments – everything well up to the standards we’ve come to expect!

What a splendid start to the new Audax season! This is the first year the event has been held in November, and the new timing was rewarded with spectacular weather and an enthusiastic field of riders, including many new faces and some old stalwarts.
Pictures of the starts here.
A total of 89 riders started from Connor Downs. An early fog gave way to sunshine for most of the day, but lingered as mist or haze in places, providing some interesting light effects on what is always a scenic route. Some of us had the eerie experience of seeing the rocky outcrops on the left hand side of the road to Morvah brightly lit in sun while the field hedges disappeared in mist on the right. The temperatures were perfect for riding and for sitting outside at The Apple Tree Café control – indeed it was warmer and calmer than many a summer day.
62 of the 69 Celtic Coastal starters, and all 20 on the Cornish Canter, completed their rides and returned to welcome refreshments (including the excellent homemade cakes – thank you Liz!) back at the hall.
Many thanks to Chris Rayne and helpers for a great day out, and to all the riders for supporting the event.
