Mines and Mineral Railways (On and Off Road)

July 11th 2010 sees the return of this popular summer Randonnee, starting from Carharrack Village Hall. Now organised by Simon Jones, the ride retains it’s familiar dual format – a 64km “rough stuff” route for the mountain bikers, and a slightly longer 69km on tarmac for the roadies. Entry is £5 , plus £2 for insurance unless you’re a member of Audax UK, the CTC or British Cycling (all of whom offer third party liability cover to their members). A pasty lunch (meat or vegetable) is also available for an extra £2.

Unfortunately, local organiser Nick Roberts has had to cancel all three of his events – the Capt Nick Memorial 200, Hidden Lanes 100 and Hidden Lanes 50, due to take place on 2nd May.

2010 Calendar of Events now Online

All of the local events for 2010 are now online. Like last year, a few old favourites have vanished, but happily there are some new ones to take their place. Amongst these is a 300 - an ideal opportunity for those ready to step up from the “classic” 200km distance, or thinking about qualification for the next edition of the Paris-Brest-Paris 1200 in 2011.

Celtic Coastal / Celtic Canter – 9th August 2009

Thanks to all who came along today and made this, the sixth running of the Coastal, the most successful to date. The hoped for scorcher failed to materialise, but the 50 riders who turned out for the Coastal and 14 for the Canter didn’t seem to mind too much. Both rides will be back again next year on the same weekend – looking forward to seeing both old faces and new on that occasion.

Anyone who has entered either event beyond the two week deadline (26th July) may not receive a routesheet in the post, as the organiser is on holiday until the 7th of August. Routesheets will be available on the day at the event HQ.

2009 AK Events

Most of the Cornish events in 2009 are now visible on the event calendar and upcoming events list. A few events have disappeared this year, namely the Mines and Minerals and North Cornwall Coast and Downs/Moors. Before you get too downhearted, there are three new events for 2009 – all starting from Launceston on the 14th of June, and organised by Jim Wilkinson and CTC Cornwall.

Two are 100km events – The Bodmin Bash and The Dartmoor Dash, take the scenic and lumpy route across Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor respectively. For those unable to make up their minds, the 200km Two Moors Challenge visits both.
