Many Rivers to Cross

5 June, 2016
Starting from Penzance
Organiser Martyn Aldis

309km Brevet Randoneur, this year running in June.

A very substantial day out for the well‐prepared and self‐reliant randonneur. Crosses the rivers Fal, Fowey and Camel by ferries and bridges, large and small.

The route has been updated taking out the visit to Lizard village and looping east of Bodmin Moor.  The start is half an hour later in order not to arrive too early for the King Harry Ferry via the new route. Update has been forced by delays to A30 overbridge construction but the resulting route should be a treat.

Note that this is an “X-rated” event, which means there are no manned controls or specific facilities. You attach commercial or ATM receipts to your brevet card for timed controls, and post it to the organiser after the event. No on-the-line entries.

Lizard and the Camel

15 May, 2016
Starting from Devoran
Organiser Martyn Aldis

A new 200km Brevet Randoneur from Devoran village hall.

The route provides more modest ascent than other 200s run in Cornwall but it is scenic in the literal sense. The Camel Trail is used for a 21km section but this can be avoided on supplied all-tarmac alternative. Controls at Lizard Village, Gwithian Towans and Padstow, plus 2 information controls.

Tea or coffee at the start and free refreshments at the finish, with shop and café stop opportunities at controls and elsewhere on route.

The “no gels” Dorset Coast 200km

Old Harry's RocksIsn’t that the sound of gunfire in the distance?  But it is 6 am on a Sunday in the sleepy Isle of Purbeck and it is the day of the Dorset Coast.  After a hearty breakfast (including black pudding) the four of us ride off to the start in Wareham.  Mark and Jane are in their Willesden CC strips and Robin and I in our Audax Kernow colours.  Mark is in his usual early season good shape (which is quite visible).
