Ed’s ride proved as popular as ever, as the rain of early morning cleared away before the start, and riders set off hot foot towards the magnet of the Penventon Farm control. A warm welcome and a groaning table of pasties, sausage rolls, scones and a variety of cakes greeted us and tempted us to stay, but eventually that long haul back up to Black Rock must be faced and even enjoyed.
Back at the arrivée mince pies were warming and Thora had worked her magic on the cauldron of mulled wine. Most made it back without even catching a shower.
Many thanks from all the riders to Eddie, Wendy and all the helpers for a great start to the festive season.
This may only be a very short audax randonnée, but this is the one event that riders really look forward to in early December every year. It is a pleasant prelude to the season when the bike otherwise gets neglected and we put on some unwanted extra pounds.

This event is the first in the Audax Kernow season, and has become a popular pre-Christmas treat for local cyclists from a wide variety of backgrounds. This year was fully booked in advance as usual, and over 80 riders took to the road in excellent winter riding weather – ice-free, dry and calm.
The scenic route offered enough climbing to keep the riders warm and to enable their full appreciation of the magnificent refreshments at the mid-point control at Penventon Farm. Returning via Black Rock, the ride ended with a final fast descent to the arrivée and a chance to socialise and enjoy a warming glass of mulled wine with mince pie and cream.
There is a ride report here. If anyone has any pictures from the event let us know and we’ll add a link.
