Mines and Mineral Railways ON-road and OFF-road

25 June, 2017
Starting from Carharrack
Organiser Simon Jones

This popular Cornish randonnĂ©e is now in its 22nd edition in its familiar dual format – a 67km route on the tarmac for the roadies, and a 66km parallel off-road route for the mountain bikers, which is 90% off-road and has some technical bits. Both trace the now scenic industrial landscape of the Copper Kingdom and the Great Flat Lode, returning to the Carharrack hall twice with the option of enjoying a pasty lunch and a cream tea.

Order your choice of pasty and either rice pudding or scone with cream and jam by entering online at ukcyclist.co.uk/audax-events/61-mines-and-mineral-railways-2017 0r follow the instructions on the Audax UK site from the links below.

Mines and Mineral Railways Events 26 June 2016

Great rides, tasty pasty and cream tea. Good to see so many riders from up country, including another tandem.

Shame about the weather but off-roaders like it muddy don’t they.

Mines and Mineral Railways ON-road and OFF-road

26 June, 2015
Starting from Carharrack
Organiser Simon Jones

These two events explore Cornwall’s mining heritage in the ‘Copper Kingdom’ between the Channel and the Atlantic, with the optional extra of a pasty lunch and a cream tea.

The off-road event is a 40 mile ride using the old tramroads and bridleways that criss-cross mid Cornwall’s mining area. This route is 90% off road – mountain bike recommended. The on-road event is a similar distance over the same territory, but sticks to the tarmac of the lanes.

Order your choice of pasty and either rice pudding or scone with cream and jam using customised form or online entry at ukcyclist.co.uk/audax-events/mines-and-mineral.

Mines and Mineral Railways Events 2015

28 June, 2015
Starting from Carharrack
Organiser Simon Jones

Cream teaA very murky start to the rides this year, leading to the surreal experience of riding up Carn Brea with the monument completely hidden in the mist. The weather improved dramatically around the mid-point return to Carharrack for pasties, ending with sunshine and a delightful cream tea.

Chris Rayne has photos of the events here.

An unexpectedly large number of last minute arrivals left some would-be off-roaders disappointed this year – a reminder to enter ahead or at least warn the organiser if large parties are intending to enter “on the line”.
