Mines and Mineral Railways ON-road and OFF-road

6 July, 2014 from Carharrack Organiser Simon Jones

We had a total of 55 starters for the two events, more for the off-road, including 16 women. The youngest rider was a girl of 13 and in the offroad a lad of 14. The weather was fine and a bit cooler than last year. We had to do a bit a hedgetrimming to clear undergrowth along the offroad route but there were still signs of bloody arms and legs on the offroaders from
“bramble rash” but this was all taken in good spirit by the time they tucked into their jam and scones at the finish.

One rider emailed “Can I just say what an amazing day I had yesterday,
what a great event! I will definitely be there again next year! Thanks”.

Thanks to the riders who participated and raised a modest sum for Cornwall Hospice Care.

Merlin’s Coast to Coast 15th June 2014

Many thanks to all who helped and took part in the hugely successful first edition of Merlin’s Coast to Coast.  85 riders took part in the ride and all came back with smiles on their faces, despite the challenging hills in the second half of the ride.  The occasion was made even more successful by the wonderful spread of food at the finish and many thanks to all those who contributed to the catering.

Next year there we hope to run a 50k ride alongside the 100k,  which hopefully will result in an even greater number of participants.

Local Audax Events Update

An updated two-page flyer listing the events from July to December is available here to download. This now includes The Celtic Coastal and Celtic Canter events from  Connor Downs on 10 August, and also the Moor & Coast  on 8 June, which is one of four rides from Brentor, near Tavistock – at 200km it is long enough to take in roads in North Cornwall.

The next local event is Merlin’s Coast to Coast from Hewas Water on 15 June. Please support this new event organised by Probus Pedallers to raise funds for the Merlin Centre (Cornwall’s Multiple Sclerosis Centre).

Events from Devoran

18 May, 2014
Starting from Devoran
Organiser Martyn Aldis

The change of venue was blessed with particularly fine warm weather, and 65 riders took off from Devoran on the three very different routes, returning to Devoran for cakes and crumble, with custard hot or cold.

There is a “tongue in cheek” ride report on the Falmouth Wheeler’s web site, and some photos.

Links below to the results lists – these show riders who completed in time with a valid Brevet card – unfortunately a few people failed to control so don’t appear here.

Merlin’s Coast to Coast

It is now only 6 weeks to this new event starting from the Merlin MS Centre at Hewas Water near St Austell.  This event is to raise money for the Merlin MS Centre which is an outstanding charity supporting people with multiple sclerosis.  It is a source of great support both to people suffering with the condition and to their carers.  This ride therefore has a slightly higher than normal entry fee of £10 but participants are also invited to raise additional sponsorship money if they would like to do so.  A sponsorship form can be obtained by accessing the Merlin MS Centre’s own website at the following address:

http://www.merlinmscentre.org.uk/images/Sponsor_Form_for_web.pdf

Or alternatively by contacting Sarah Snell on (01726) 885536.

Refreshments will be available at the Merlin MS Centre at the end of the ride and a goody bag is also available, kindly donated by Clive Mitchell cycles.  Fred will be there at the Merlin Centre for the start of the ride to help with any minor glitches to bikes etc to ensure that things go smoothly on the day.  There will even be someone out there taking photos to commemorate the event.

Come and join us and bring the sunshine too if you can!!
