Local (and not so local) rides in 2015

I have updated the “Forthcoming events” calendar with details of all the Audax Kernow organisers’ rides up until July. As usual, you will also find some details of Devon events that venture our side of the Tamar. Printable poster (PDF file) here:

Audax Events on Cornish Roads April to June 2015

As this is a Paris-Brest-Paris year all the events over 200km in length are BRM (Brevet Randonneur Mondiaux) events, run under the regulations of the French club, Audax Club Parisien (ACP). More information, including details of the timeframes for qualification, is available on the Audax UK site.

Rumour is that a few local Audaxers are hoping to take part this year. You can see Don Hutchison’s 1999 ride report on this site, and we’d welcome your reports of 2015 qualifying rides whether in Cornwall or further afield.

Ed’s Mince Pie and Mulled Wine 2014

7 December, 2014
Starting from Carharrack
Organiser Eddie Angell
Ed’s ride proved as popular as ever, as the rain of early morning cleared away before the start, and riders set off hot foot towards the magnet of the Penventon Farm control. A warm welcome and a groaning table of pasties, sausage rolls, scones and a variety of cakes greeted us and tempted us to stay, but eventually that long haul back up to Black Rock must be faced and even enjoyed.

Back at the arrivée mince pies were warming and Thora had worked her magic on the cauldron of mulled wine. Most made it back without even catching a shower.

Many thanks from all the riders to Eddie, Wendy and all the helpers for a great start to the festive season.

Celtic Coastal and Celtic Canter 2014

10 August, 2014 from Connor Downs Organiser Chris Rayne

Audax Kernow riders 1, Ex-hurricane Bertha 0.

Despite the repeated ominous weather forecasts, 14 riders turned out for the Connor Downs events and were rewarded with a bright and breezy ride – no gales, no rain, no floods, no carnage.  Some even reported more tailwinds than headwinds all the way round, though it was still a day that called for some serious work and smart riding. Serious and smart eating naturally follows – the riders on the Celtic Coastal were able to brunch in the sun at the Apple Tree Café, and everyone enjoyed a good spread back at the Arrivée.

Local Audax Events Update

An updated two-page flyer listing the events from July to December is available here to download. This now includes The Celtic Coastal and Celtic Canter events from  Connor Downs on 10 August, and also the Moor & Coast  on 8 June, which is one of four rides from Brentor, near Tavistock – at 200km it is long enough to take in roads in North Cornwall.

The next local event is Merlin’s Coast to Coast from Hewas Water on 15 June. Please support this new event organised by Probus Pedallers to raise funds for the Merlin Centre (Cornwall’s Multiple Sclerosis Centre).
